Why I Treat December Like Pre-Season Training

1. Story Time:

Shaking off the Rust

November and December are chaos.

Between holiday parties, work, family, and leftover pecan pie, my workout routine usually ends up on the back burner.

And who’s really sticking to a strict diet with all those cookies around? Not me.

But then January rolls around, and I’m all fired up for my New Year’s resolutions.

Here’s the problem.

Going from zero to full speed in January is a recipe for disaster.

I’m talking full-body soreness after one workout and burnout before February even shows up.

Last year, I tried something different.

I treated December as my fitness pre-season. Just like athletes do. And honestly, it worked.

2. Quick Win:

Your December Pre-Season Plan

Take the pressure off.

No need to stress about perfect workouts or tracking every calorie.

It’s the holidays, so enjoy yourself guilt-free.

But pick an activity you actually enjoy—running, yoga, strength training, hiking, whatever works, and ease back into it.

Start slow.

Two or three sessions a week.

No crazy goals, no overthinking.

The goal is simple.

Get moving again, shake off the rust, and let your body remember what regular exercise feels like.

Come January, you’ll be ahead of the game.

3. Micro-Insight:

Consistency Over Perfection

Most people start January going all-in.

Strict diets.

Intense workouts.

Big plans.

And then what happens?

By February, they’re done.

Burned out.

Over it.

It’s not about being perfect.

It’s about showing up consistently.

Start small in December, and you’ll hit January with momentum.

No sore muscles.

No shock to the system.

Just steady progress that actually lasts.

4. Your Challenge:

Pre-Season Kickoff

Let’s use the last two weeks of the year to set the tone for 2025.

Pick something that gets you moving.

Running.

Yoga.

Garage workouts.

Whatever makes you feel good.

Stick to 2-3 sessions a week and don’t stress about the details.

It’s about building a habit, not winning a competition.

And when you’re done, let me know.

Reply to this email and tell me what you chose.

I’d love to hear how it’s going.

5. This Week’s Motto:

“Start Before You’re Ready.”

There’s no perfect time.

Don’t wait for everything to fall into place.

Take the first step now.

Small moves today can lead to big wins tomorrow.

Stay moving!

Joe
