Is Your Body Out of Balance?

1. Story Time: The One-Sided Problem

A client walked into my session last week complaining about low back discomfort.

Nothing crazy, just that nagging, dull ache that wouldn’t go away.

We started checking a few things, and one issue stood out immediately: his hips were way tighter on one side than the other.

Not only that, but the same side was also weaker.

That’s when it clicked.

His body wasn’t working in sync.

Imagine driving a car with one tire that’s half flat. You can still drive, but over time, it wears everything down unevenly.

Then it can start affecting other parts of the car.

The body works the same way. When one side is tighter or weaker than the other, it throws everything off.

So, what’s the goal?

Getting things as balanced as possible.

The closer we can get both sides working together, the better we move, the better we feel, and the less strain we put on areas like the lower back.

2. Try This: A Simple Way to Check Your “Balance”

Want to see if you might have an imbalance too?

Here’s an example of a quick test:

  • Do a hip stretch that requires you to do both sides. Does one side feel tighter than the other?
  • Do 10 bodyweight lunges on each side. Feel any differences in stability or strength?
  • Sit in a deep squat for 30 seconds. Is one side tighter than the other?

If one side feels way different than the other, that’s a sign your body is compensating somewhere.

The good news? You can work on this.

Focus on single-sided movements in your workouts.

3. Micro-Insight: Why “Balance” Matters

When your body is out of balance, small problems turn into big ones.

A tight hip on one side? That can lead to compensations that stress your low back, knees, or even shoulders.

A weak side? That makes the stronger side work overtime, increasing wear and tear.

The key isn’t perfection, it’s awareness and small adjustments.

4. Weekly Mantra: Move in Balance, Move with Strength

The more balanced your body is, the better it moves and the less pain you feel.

Take small steps today to bring things into alignment.
